NY 153 at its southern terminus with NY 96 in Pittsford. NY 153 used to be part of NY 253, which was truncated in the mid-1980s. Photo taken by Mark Sinsabaugh on August 31, 2001.
END 153 shield at NY 153's southern terminus. According to Mark Sinsabaugh, "Although not as noticeable as the shields at NY 153's northern terminus, it appears as though NYSDOT Region 4 covered up the 2 in a NY 253 shield with a 1 for the switchover to NY 153. This was probably an advanced turn assembly." Photo taken by Mark Sinsabaugh on August 31, 2001.
The current northern terminus of NY 153 is at NY 441 in Penfield. According to Mark Sinsabaugh, "Note the white around 1 on NY 153 shield. NYSDOT covered 2 in NY 253 shields with this when NY 253 was truncated at NY 65 and section between NY 96 and NY 441 was renumbered NY 153 in 1983." As for the overpass, it appeared that the northern terminus is a controlled intersection, one of the few overpasses and intersections for NY 441 (the interchange with I-490 appears to be the other one). NB on NY 153 nearing the end. Note the END assembly in the middleground, and the NY 441 overpass in the distance. Photo taken by Nathan Perry on April 16, 2002.
The terminus itself, at the ramps for NY 441 westbound. Here NY 153 becomes SR 942B, whose terminus is around the corner in the distance (see below). Photo taken by Nathan Perry on April 16, 2002.
The NB terminus of SR 942B is at this bridge over Irondequoit Creek. Note that the bridge has not only a reference marker but also a Monroe County bridge marker. 942B becomes CR 270 here (Panorama Trail) and I think the bridge is part of the county, not state, route. Close-up of that reference marker. Old-school style. Note that the route is only 0.2 miles long. Photo taken by Nathan Perry on April 16, 2002.
SB on SR 942B as it becomes NY 153 at the NY 441 interchange. Lousy photo, but you can see how the NY 153 is actually an old NY 253 shield with the "1" pasted on. Lots of traffic headed east on NY 441, since you can't get there via Penfield Road. Photo taken by Nathan Perry on April 16, 2002.
Marginally related: this is a stray reference marker on Five Mile Line Road, near the old old north/east end of NY 253. This actually looks like a replacement marker put up during the time that Linden Ave. and Five Mile Line Rd. were still state-maintained, but after NY 253 was moved off of them.
