Walden Ave. (NY 952Q)

West End: City Line - Buffalo
East End: NY 33 - Alden

Normally, I wouldn't have an ends page for a reference route that isn't a highway or parkway, but Walden Ave. in the greater Buffalo area. is a special case due to its length. Brian Tabor writes... These pictures were taken at the east end of a noteworthy reference route, NY 952Q. It is well signed as a reference route should be, with most of the little green signs or tenth mile markers, your choice, in place. NY 952Q also happens to be the longest reference route in the whole state that is neither a highway nor parkway. It's just Walden Avenue from end to end, traversing Cheektowaga, Depew, Lancaster and Alden; the east end, in fact, marks the end of Walden in Alden, Erie County. It's just over 14 miles." Showing control cities at crossing. View is from NY 33 heading east (left); NY 952Q west is the right turn (Lancaster, Buffalo direction). Photo taken by Brian Tabor on November 18, 2001.

The current western terminus of the Walden Ave. reference route is at the Buffalo city line. No "1000" LGS posted Eastbound but "1001" was. Here's the first sign of this reference route in the town of Cheektowaga. Photo taken by Brian Tabor on October 30, 2001.

The *real* west end at the Cheektowaga/Buffalo line. Appears to be in the middle of the block on Walden. City of Buffalo welcome sign is a few hundred yards further west. Photo taken by Brian Tabor on October 30, 2001.
