At the south end, NY 22 originally extended south into lower Manhattan via 4th Ave., Park Ave., 110th St., Lenox Ave., 145th St., the Grand Concourse, Jerome Ave., E. 233rd St., and Provost Ave. In 1972, the southern terminus was truncated to its present location near the Bronx-Westchester County Line. At the north end, NY 22 once extended to the Canadian border near Mooers. In 2008, the designation was truncated by 3 3/4 miles to US 11.

The existing segments of NY 24 are part of the original routing, which was one continuous route until 1941. The decommissioned sections ran along local roads running roughly alongside the Long Island Railroad. The route was almost made continuous again, as NY 24 was the original designation of the Long Island Expressway when it was built in the late 1950's and early 1960's. However, NY 24 was returned to its original alignment and the LIE was given the NY 495 designation.

NY 26 pretty much follows its original course. However, the section between Carthage and Theresa had to be realigned to accomodate expansion of the Fort Drum Military Base. The original alignment in this area followed NY 3 from Carthage to North Wilna. The section between North Wilna and Antwerp was dismantled for the base. From Antwerp to Theresa, NY 26 followed Jefferson CR 194 before rejoining its present alignment. The new alignment put NY 26 on local roads between Carthage and Evans Mills, US 11 north to Philadelphia, and NY 411 north to Theresa.

History:

In the mid 1970's, NY 28, which was routed concurrently with NY 7 through Oneonta, was moved to I-88's alignment, where the two routes run concurrently today.
Notes:




Because of the shape of NY 28's alignment (which takes the form of the letter "C"), NY 28 is signed east-west from the southern terminus in Kingston to Delhi, north-south from Delhi to the Oneida-Herkimer County Line near Old Forge, and west-east in northern Herkimer County, as well as Hamilton and Warren Counties to the northern end near Warrensburg.
